I had a blast running my WarpJams.Com Raspberry Pi Experience Lab tonight.
I had 25 kids stop in to experience the joy of programming a Raspberry Pi.
We played some games like Minecraft Pi, Scratch games and programming and Explored the Shape of Sound through my Midi Synth Sound Scope application.
I was so happy to get to do this again for the 3rd time. I really love teaching kids how to use computers.
I also got to launch the WarpJams.Com Raspberry Pi 5 8gb kit give away. This year we are giving away a full starter kit we purchased from CanaKit which includes a Raspberry Pi 5 with 8gb of ram and a 128gb sd card with Raspberrian OS loaded and ready to go. The kit includes a new power supply, case, heat sink and fan along with 2 hdmi cables ready to plugin into your 4k monitors, mouse and keyboard.
It was really interesting to see the kids play with each of the Pi’s as we had a Raspberry Pi 3 in a touch screen set up with a bluetooth keyboard, a Raspberry Pi 4b with 8gb ram and a Raspberry Pi 5 with 8 gb ram to play with. The Raspberry Pi 5 was the show winner for speed and usability compared to the others. We also had a bunch of sensors and a pi hat to play with on out bread board connected to the Pi 3 touch screen.
Next year I hope to garner some more assistance so I can get more time to talk with the parents while the kids experiment. So many projects to work on including the World record Pi Jam Session challenge, the distributed storage network project using the blockchain and SC coin and the Pi Giveaway. I am looking forward to more local Jam Sessions groups forming now that Covid has faded away and new we can all get together in person. I hope to see a resurgence of maker spaces, tech events and meet ups. So please take an hour of code challenge, watch the video on React, log your activity and share your contest link so you get more entries in the drawing.
I hope you all have a wonderful year and I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible at a Jam Session.
